This time in ALO NUI ICONS, we have the pleasure to interview the model, influencer and entrepreneur Jelena Cikoja. From Germany, we love her because of her super inspiring photos in NYC (or anywhere she travels!), the awesome energy she has and her great sense of style. Where are you from and where are you based? / ¿De dónde eres y dónde tienes la base?
I was born in Stuttgart, Germany but I have Croatian roots. I lived in both countries and definitely consider myself both, Croatian & German :) Right now I call New York City home and couldn’t be happier.
Nací en Stuttgart, Alemania pero tengo raíces croatas. He vivido en ambos países y definitivamente me considero de ambos, croata y alemana :) Ahora llamo a Nueva York mi hogar, y no puedo ser más feliz.
You're a model and also the co-founder of the new case brand Abeona. How did it all start? / Eres modelo y también la cofundadora de la nueva marca Abeona. ¿Cómo empezó todo?
When I was still in school I was discovered as a model in Germany and signed with a local agency the same week. Within a year I started working all over Germany and also globally. Traveling is my favorite part of this job!
I love everything practical. Especially if it’s sleek as well! My girlfriend Julie Beekman and I were brainstorming and sketching for months and eventually managed to hold our idea in our hands. When creating Abeona.NYC we wanted to make a phone case that holds your most essential cards like your ID, metro card and credit cards all while having it attached to you allowing easy access to it all. I can’t imagine life without it !
Cuando todavía estaba en el colegio fuí descubierta en Alemania y firmé con una agencia local la misma semana. En menos de un año empecé a trabajar por todo Alemania y también globalmente. ¡Viajar es la parte favorita de mi trabajo!
Me gusta lo práctico. Especialmente si es de líneas puras. Mi amiga Julie Beekman y yo empezamos a idear y hacer sketches durante meses y al final nos las apañamos para conseguir una idea sólida. Con Abeona.NYC queremos hacer fundas para móvil que también guarden tu carnet, tarjeta de metro y de crédito... etc y que sea todo de fácil acceso. ¡No puedo imaginarme la vida sin ellas ahora!
Where do you get the inspiration to create? / ¿Qué te inspira?
My travels inspire me, the people around me, Pinterest, Movies...
Mis viajes, la gente que me rodea, Pinterest, películas...
If you could only wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what would it be? / Si sólo pudieses ponerte un outfit durante el resto de tu vida, ¿cuál sería?
Probably a ReDone Levis jeans, white shirt and leather jacket.
Probablemente un par de vaqueros ReDone, una camisa blanca y una chaqueta de cuero.
Favorite designer? / ¿Diseñador favorito?
I could never just decide on one! I love so many designers for different reasons. From Celine, The Row over to R13 and Acne Studios. But lately I’ve especially been loving pieces by Nili Lotan, Arjé, Nanushka & Chakshyn. Style is never about following one designer or shopping in just one store, but rather finding items you identify with and which make you happy.
¡No podría decidirme sólo por uno! Me gustan muchos diseñadores por varias razones. Desde Celine o The Row hasta Acne Studio y R13. Pero últimamente me están gustando mucho las cosas de Nili Lotan, Arjé, Nanushka y Chakshyn. El estilo no es algo que dependa de seguir a un diseñador o comprar sólo en un lugar, sino de encontrar esas cosas con las que te identifiques y que te hagan feliz.

My vintage Chanel backpack. It's almost as old as I am and it’s something I’ve wanted for years.

Favorite trend? What trend you like the least and wish it never come back ever again? / ¿Tendencia favorita? ¿Qué tendencia desearías que no volviese nunca?
I love all white and all beige looks.
Neon colors are something I can handle only in small accents, but not too much of it.
Me encantan los looks en tonos blancos y beiges. Los tonos neon con algo que solo puedo soportar en cantidades pequeñas, pero no demasiado.
Who is your fashion icon? / ¿Quién es tu icono de moda?
Honestly I adore the Olsen Twins and will never get tired of their style.
Honestamente, adoro a las gemelas Olsen y nunca me cansaré de su estilo.
A place to get lost? / ¿Un lugar en el que perderte?
I get lost wherever I travel to. Diving right in and immersing myself in the culture is my favorite way of traveling. But I do prefer tropical climates and really enjoyed Bali.
Me gusta perderme en los sitios a los que viajo. Viajar por ahí y sumergirme en la cultura es mi forma favorita de viajar. Pero prefiero los climas tropicales y me gusta mucho Bali.

I am excited to find out myself! Currently I’m juggling 3 jobs and I’m loving it. But my mind is always working and I wish the day had more than 24 hours ;) I would love to get back into painting and embrace the more artstic side of me.
¡Tengo muchas ganas de saberlo yo misma! Tengo 3 trabajos y me encanta. Pero mi mente está siempre trabajando y me encantaría tener más de 24 horas en el día. Me encantaría volver a pintar y estar más en contacto con mi parte artística.
